Former NFL player Hugh Douglas, who played for the New York Jets, Philadelphia Eagles and Jacksonville Jaguars, is facing a civil lawsuit from a woman who says he assaulted her. The suit stems from a September 2013 incident at a Connecticut hotel.
According to court filings reported by TheJasmineBrand and other outlets, the woman, Hope, says Douglas grabbed her by the neck and slammed her head into a hotel wall. Douglas was arrested and charged in the incident and received two years of probation, according to those reports. In the civil case, Hope is asking for damages for physical and emotional injuries.
Douglas has denied her version of events. Reports say he disputes that he carried her by the neck and that he hit her head against a wall, and he has said she was not injured by him.
Documents filed on February 16 by Hope’s side accuse Douglas of not complying with the discovery process. She asked the court to order him to turn over communications about the hotel incident, the names of others who have accused him of assault, tax returns from 2011 forward, and records tied to his 2013 departure from ESPN. She also says he has refused to sit for a deposition. We will update this story if Douglas responds publicly.
