It’s always inspiring to see those who are well-off giving to those who are less fortunate. Former NFL player Warrick Dunn is one individual who has been setting a great example and showing people how to pay it forward in a big way.

Through his foundation, Warrick Dunn Charities, the ex-Atlanta Falcons and Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back has been able to help out 145 single-parent families around the country. Dunn and his charity help pay for part of the downpayment, furniture, food, and other necessities for families who have just bought a new home. The giveaway is part of the charity’s Homes for the Holidays initiative. In September, he helped pay for his 144th home, which was purchased by a widowed grandmother in New Jersey whose old house was destroyed by Hurricane Sandy. Most recently, in October, he helped pay for home number 145 for a single mother in Tampa.

Homes for the Holidays has been helping people in the community since 1997, the year Dunn was first drafted to the NFL. The charity partners with Habitat for Humanity to select recipients for homeowner assistance. Dunn first started Homes for the Holidays in honor of his late mother, who also experienced the struggle of raising a family by herself.
