Police say the wife of former NFL player Buster Barnett was abducted from her Georgia home and fatally shot, and that the woman responsible then took her own life.
According to WSB-TV and TMZ, Sandra Barnett, a special needs teacher, was on the phone with a friend on Wednesday afternoon when a woman named Lisa arrived at her home. The friend told WSB-TV she heard the situation turn threatening and called 911. Police say Lisa forced Sandra into a black Dodge Durango that belongs to Buster Barnett.
Carroll County deputies spotted the vehicle later that day and chased it into Alabama. Police say the SUV stopped on Interstate 20, where Lisa shot Sandra and then shot herself. Investigators say they found handcuffs and a receipt for their recent purchase inside the vehicle.
Police also say Lisa was on probation in Texas at the time in connection with kidnapping her daughter during a custody dispute.
Our thoughts are with Sandra’s family and friends.
