Police sources say a former personal assistant has been arrested in connection with the death of New York tech CEO Fahim Saleh.
According to the Daily News and ABC 7, the man, Tyrese, 21, worked for Fahim, 33, the CEO of the Nigerian delivery and logistics company Gokada. Fahim was found dead on Tuesday in his Lower East Side condo in Manhattan. His sister discovered him after a neighbor reportedly heard screaming and loud noises and a concerned friend reached out to her.
Sources told local outlets that detectives are looking at a business dispute and the alleged theft of tens of thousands of dollars. Text messages reportedly show Fahim accusing Tyrese of taking money, and sources say Fahim offered a repayment plan. Police sources also said a credit card believed to belong to Fahim was used to buy a power tool that was later found at the scene, and that a serial number from a stun gun recovered there helped investigators connect the case. Reports say surveillance video shows a man following Fahim into the building, and that the person responsible ran down a stairwell when Fahim’s sister arrived.
Tyrese reportedly faces a second degree murder charge. These are allegations, and he has not been convicted. The reports reviewed did not include a comment from Tyrese or an attorney for him.
Gokada called Fahim “a leader, innovator and inspiration.” We send our condolences to his family and loved ones.
