Former Police Officer Who Helped Restrain George Floyd Sentenced to Over Three Years in Prison

J. Alexander Kueng

Former Minneapolis officer J. Alexander Kueng was sentenced on Friday to 3.5 years in prison for his doing in the inhumane death of George Floyd.

The ex-officer was also involved with several other officers and the lead officer, Derek Chauvin, in the restraining of Floyd.

George Floyd’s death shocked the nation, creating multiple protests during the summer of 2020. The event also leads to million of shares of the hashtag #GeorgeFloyd.

Kueng pleaded guilty to aiding and abetting second-degree manslaughter in October. He also agreed with the sentencing.

According to Axios, a part of the plea agreement was that Kueng had to admit he knowingly restrained Floyd by holding his torso despite knowing the risk of death due to “positional asphyxia.”

He acknowledged that the restraint was unreasonable under the circumstances and law.

Floyd’s family attorney released a statement.

“While the family faces yet another holiday season without George, we hope that moments like these continue to bring them a measure of peace, knowing that George’s death was not in vain.”
