Former Washington Redskins cornerback Fred Smoot was arrested on a misdemeanor assault charge after his girlfriend, Valerie, posted allegations and photos on Instagram. Baller Alert was first to report this story.
On Tuesday morning, Valerie shared a series of posts in which she accused Smoot of hitting her on Aug 11 and again on Oct 5, 2014. She posted photos that she said showed injuries to her shoulders, neck, lips and arms. She also posted a restraining order dated Nov 23, saying Smoot broke down a door to get to her that day. Smoot was arrested and has since been released.
Smoot is presumed innocent, and the charge is a misdemeanor. He had not publicly responded to the allegations at the time of this report.
