Coronavirus test

Four members of the New York Yankees have tested positive following a six-game road trip to Florida.

The team announced On Sunday that first baseman Anthony Rizzo was the latest to test positive. Pitchers Gerrit Cole and Jordan Montgomery tested positive on Monday and Tuesday, respectively. On Thursday, catcher Gary Sanchez was placed on the COVID-19 injured list.

“I think a lot came out of Florida where we were in this wave of them,” manager Aaron Boone said Sunday. “It’s a little of you don’t know when and where it’s spreading.”

Per MLB coronavirus protocols, players who test positive for the virus will need to quarantine for 10 days before they can rejoin the team.

At least 85 percent of the Yankees are vaccinated. Rizzo, a cancer survivor, previously spoke about his decision not to get vaccinated. At the time, the first baseman said he decided for “personal reasons.”

“It weighed hard,” Rizzo said in June. “It’s a decision I made, and I stand with it.

The team also had six players test positive last month, following the All-Star break. Those players were Aaron Judge, Gio Urshela, Kyle Higashioka, Wandy Peralta, Jonathan Loaisiga, and Nestor Cortes Jr. All players have since been taken off the COVID-19 injury list.
