Future is letting fans into a softer, messier, and much more honest side of himself as he prepares to drop his upcoming album, “The Real Me,” on July 10. The Atlanta rapper sparked conversation after opening up about true love, marriage, lust, and why he believes the right woman can help a man level up. The project is expected to be his first solo album in nearly two years, following 2024’s “Mixtape Pluto.”
In a video posted to his Instagram Story on Wednesday, July 1, Future shared a dinner conversation that quickly turned into a full breakdown of what he believes real love should look like. When a woman in the clip told him she thinks he loves love, Pluto made it clear he is not interested in anything fake.
“But I love true love. I don’t want fake love. True love is like having another life. It’s like having another hit record. How many people can get that?”
When asked if marriage is something he actually wants, Future did not hesitate.
“Hell yeah! Do I want to get married to the wrong person? No. Do I want to be faithful to the wrong girl? No. Every man that marries the right woman, they progress. When you marry and that s**t ain’t for sure, you lose.”
Of course, because this is Future, the conversation did not stop at romance and wedding rings. He also spoke about the type of love he believes would have to come with his lifestyle, explaining that his woman would need to love him even through temptation.
“If you see me out with a f**king girl holding her hand, she like, ’N***a I still love you. I love you when you holding another b***h hand!’” he said. “It ain’t right [but] that’s just unconditional love. I’m still who I am. It don’t matter what. You love me on who I am, [whether] I got temptations or not.”
That comment instantly gave fans plenty to debate, especially since Future’s love life has been a major part of his public image for years. His most high-profile relationship was with Ciara, whom he got engaged to in October 2013. The former couple welcomed their son, Future Zahir Wilburn, on May 19, 2014, before ending their engagement just months later amid reports of alleged infidelity.
Their split later became even more public as custody and legal issues played out in the headlines. Ciara filed a $15 million defamation lawsuit against Future in 2016, and the legal drama eventually ended after the remaining “false light” claim was dismissed with prejudice in 2017.
Future has also been linked to other high-profile women, including Lori Harvey. Their romance became public around early 2020 after months of dating rumors, but by that summer, breakup rumors spread after the two reportedly scrubbed signs of each other from social media. He moved on with fellow rapper Dess Dior in late 2020, and their romance appeared serious enough to spark marriage rumors before they reportedly split in 2022.
Dess later made it clear there was no bad blood, saying, “We’re very very very good friends,” adding, “He always supports me and I’ll always support him. It’s not bad blood.”
Future was also linked to Larsa Pippen during her split from Scottie Pippen, though Larsa later downplayed the romance and said, “People made more of it than it was.” She also said Future was “the guy that was there to see me go through it” during a dark period in her life, while making it clear, “it was never that serious.”
Now, with “The Real Me,” Future says he is done hiding parts of himself.
“I’m at a point in my life I’m being the real me,” he explained. “You suffer because you can’t even show the people who you really are. That’s why I’m making this album, ‘The Real Me.’ Because I want people to know this is the real me.”
Whether fans see his comments as honesty, chaos, or a red flag wrapped in a love song, Future clearly knows how to get people talking. And with an album titled “The Real Me” on the way, it sounds like Pluto is ready to give listeners the version of himself he says they have not fully seen yet.
