School Bus Driver Arrested After Video Of Him Shoving Two Black Children Goes Viral [Video]

A school bus driver in Georgia was fired and arrested for shoving Black students, allegedly instructing them to sit in the back of the bus.

On Friday, white former bus driver, James O’Neil, was arrested and charged with two counts of battery after video footage showed him assaulting two Black students. The two children were 6 and 10, Complex reports.

In the video, the boy’s 10-year-old sister can be heard telling the driver to stop pushing her brother. The driver then turned to the child and said, “shut your mouth.” He added: “What a pain in the neck you guys are. Get out of here!”

This all happened on Sept. 9, when O’Neil told the boy to sit in the back of the bus. When he refused, O’Neil got physical.

“I don’t know why he told them to sit in the back of the bus because the high schoolers sit back there, and normally the primaries sit right behind the bus driver,” said the children’s mother, Nequania Carter. The family feels the incident was racially motivated, Complex reports.

In a statement, the Morgan County Charter School System addressed the situation.

“The Morgan County Charter School System was made aware of an incident Friday afternoon involving a bus driver and students. We took immediate action, including notifying the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office, who we are working with during the investigation. We cannot share further details or comment due to this being a personnel issue; however, the driver was terminated,” reads the statement.

O’Neil has been working the job since 2020.
