California Gov. Newsom

California Governor Gavin Newsom just let the country know he’s not here to play when it comes to protecting his state and the Constitution. After former President Donald Trump called for his arrest and attacked his leadership, Newsom dropped a bombshell of his own: California is suing Trump.
In a strong statement posted to social media, Newsom wrote, “We are suing Donald Trump. This is a manufactured crisis. He is creating fear and terror to take over a state militia and violate the U.S. Constitution.” He warned that Trump’s actions open the door for military force in “ANY STATE HE WISHES,” calling it a clear path toward authoritarianism.

And if that wasn’t enough, Newsom made it plain: “The President of the United States just called for the arrest of a sitting Governor. This is a day I hoped I would never see in America.”

So what triggered all this? Trump, during a media appearance, took direct shots at Newsom, saying, “He’s done a terrible job. I like Gavin Newsom. He’s a nice guy, but he’s grossly incompetent.” Then he mocked California’s high-speed rail project as a “little railroad” that’s “100 times over budget,” and compared it to his own budget skills — saying, “We’re putting a flagpole over there. Under budget.”

But the real fire came when he went off about the protests in Los Angeles over federal immigration crackdowns. “The people that are causing the problem are professional agitators. They’re insurrectionists. They’re bad people. They should be in jail,” Trump said.
And when asked about Newsom himself? Trump didn’t hold back, suggesting if he were in charge, the governor might be in handcuffs too. “I would do it if I were Tom,” he said, referring to former immigration official Tom Homan, who previously called for charges against California officials who defied ICE.

Now, California is taking Trump to court. Newsom and his legal team argue the Trump violated the Constitution by attempting to take control of the state’s National Guard and send in troops without state approval. It’s a bold move in defense of states’ rights, and a major moment in what’s becoming a full-on battle between federal power and state sovereignty.
Newsom urged governors of all political backgrounds to stand together, calling the move “an unmistakable step toward authoritarianism that threatens the foundation of our republic.”

Why This Matters
• Governor vs. President: Trump called for Newsom to be jailed — an unprecedented move against a sitting U.S. governor.
• Legal Heat: California is suing over what it says is an illegal military deployment.
• Protest Crackdown: Trump labeled immigration protestors in L.A. as “insurrectionists,” raising concern about government overreach.
