George Clooney has been hitting the ball out of the park with his recent stance on Hollywood and Politics.
Clooney has already said that Donald Trump will go down in history as a laughing stock, but in a recent interview with The Guardian, the actor goes more in depth about his feelings towards the candidate.
“He’s just an opportunist. Now he’s a fascist; a xenophobic fascist,” he said bluntly. “You can count on Americans to do the right thing after they’ve exhausted all the other possibilities.”
Though I agree on the xenophobic and fascist part, can we really count on Americans to do the right thing? George Clooney went on to explain that even if, by chance, Trump was elected, his political proposals would never come into fruition. The truth of the matter is, in election season, things go crazy, and the loudest voices are the furthest and most extreme,” he explained.
“So you hear a massively stupid idea, like we’re going to ban Muslims from the country. Now, we’re not ever going to do that,” he said with a shrug. “It says in the Statue of Liberty, bring us your huddled masses. It’s not what’s going to happen.”
Clooney, who voted for Barack Obama and helped the campaign raise $15 million in 2012, says that he plans to cast his ballot for Hillary Clinton. “I am a Hillary supporter. I am doing a fundraiser for her,” he says. Don’t get it twisted though, he’s here for Bernie Sanders too. “I really love Bernie Sanders, and am really glad he is in the debate,” he said.
“He is forcing the conversation to things that never get talked about in U.S. politics: disparity between the rich and the poor, which is getting worse and worse every day.”
