Georgia’s secretary of state announced on Friday that more than 100,000 names will be removed from the state’s voter registration rolls in an attempt to keep the voter files “up to date.”

According to CNN, Republican Brad Raffensperger explained the move in a statement saying, “Making sure Georgia’s voter rolls are up to date is key to ensuring the integrity of our elections.”

Raffensperger claims that the voter files being removed are “obsolete and outdated,” according to the statement, which says that since the 2020 election, he has “made it a priority to continue with the list maintenance process.”

“There is no legitimate reason to keep ineligible voters on the rolls,” Raffensperger said.

The announcement follows in the wake of new voting restrictions in Republican-led states. Georgia has been the first presidential battleground to impose the new restrictions after President Joe Biden’s victory in the state.
