A Giants fan was arrested Sunday after police say he tried to set the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ giant flag on fire following the Giants’ win over the Bucs.
According to Fox 13 and Sports Illustrated, 32 year old Daniel climbed the fence at the Buccaneers’ headquarters wearing an Eli Manning jersey and tried to light the flag with a lighter. The flag is reported to measure 80 by 50 feet and to be worth about $26,000. It is flame retardant, but reports say part of it melted and was damaged.
Bucs fans who saw it happen reportedly called police. Daniel was arrested and accused of criminal mischief and possession of marijuana. Those are allegations and he has not been convicted of anything. Reports say he was held on a $2,500 bond. A comment from him was not available in the early coverage.
Bucs fans can at least say the flag held up better than their afternoon did.
