Gillie Da Kid is known for his unfiltered energy, but his recent appearance on “All the Smoke Fight” podcast showed a raw side of the Philadelphia native.

Opening up about the loss of his son, YNG Cheese, Gillie provided a perspective on resilience and the responsibility of a father in the face of tragedy.
The pain of losing a child is something most cannot imagine, yet Gillie made it clear he isn’t looking for sympathy. His focus remains on the family members who still need him, specifically his other children and his grandson.
“But what made me go through these moments is I understand I got kids that lost a brother. Stop b***hing, man up.
He acknowledged that his children were likely closer to their brother than he was to his son, forcing him to stay grounded for their sake. He emphasized that he has to be there for his grandson, who is growing up without a father. He is stepping into a special role as Pop-pop to ensure that bond remains intact.
Gillie also addressed the dangerous attraction many young people have toward street life, regardless of their upbringing. He noted that even kids raised in stable environments with every opportunity can be led astray by an infatuation with a lifestyle they only see from the outside.
“Most motherf**kers that live in the ghetto don’t want to be there. They didn’t choose to be there. They would love to live in a nice f**king house, never worry about what the f**k you gonna eat.”
Refusing to second guess his life or the circumstances, Gillie is leaning into his strength to navigate this period. He credited his ability to stay level headed to his understanding of how the world works. By facing the reality of his situation without crashing out, he is showing what it means to lead a family through the worst possible timing. He is taking the good with the bad and staying solid for the ones who are still here.
