Dallas Mavericks forward Chandler Parsons found himself in the middle of a Twitter moment in August 2014 after a woman shared screenshots of direct messages he sent her.

According to Larry Brown Sports, a Houston area dancer named Mariah posted the screenshots on Twitter. The messages reportedly date back to late June. In them, Chandler complimented her tweets, shared his phone number and asked her to text him. About a week later, he reportedly followed up to say he was still waiting to hear from her. Mariah posted the messages with a caption telling him to get out of her DMs.

Mariah later tweeted that she would explain why she shared the messages if her post reached 500 retweets. As of the Larry Brown Sports report on August 18, she had not given a reason, and it was not clear why she waited nearly two months to post them.

Chandler responded on August 17 with a tweet telling people to be more careful about who they talk to. He also replied to a tweet from Joel Embiid by writing that it was not his first rodeo.

Fans were split on the whole thing. Some thought a friendly DM was no big deal, and others thought sharing someone’s private messages was a bad look. What do you think? Let us know in the comments.
