An 11 year old girl in Florida says an episode of Law and Order: Special Victims Unit helped her escape a man who tried to abduct her.
According to the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office, the incident happened Tuesday at a school bus stop in West Pensacola. Authorities say a man got out of a white SUV carrying a knife and tried to take the girl. She fought back and broke free. Before getting away, she smeared homemade blue slime on his arm, which investigators say helped them identify him. Police traced his vehicle from surveillance footage and arrested a suspect hours later.
The suspect, Jared, 30, has been charged with attempted kidnapping of a child under 13, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and battery. He is being held on a $1.5 million bond. Charges are allegations and he is presumed innocent until proven otherwise in court.
The girl told TODAY she remembered a plot from the show about leaving evidence on an attacker, and figured the slime would help police find him.
SVU star Mariska Hargitay, who plays Captain Olivia Benson, said she was honored the show played a role. In an Instagram post she told the girl, “You are one BRAVE, strong and smart young woman.”
