Actress Aurora Perrineau filed a police report with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department on Friday, accusing Girls writer and executive producer Murray Miller of raping her in 2012. Perrineau says she was 17 at the time. Miller has denied the allegation.
According to TheWrap, Perrineau told authorities that she went to Miller’s home with friends and later woke up in his bed. TheWrap also reports she took a polygraph test in support of her account.
Girls creators Lena Dunham and Jenni Konner then released a joint statement defending Miller. They said they had worked closely with him for years, that they stood by him, and that they believed the accusation was among the small number of assault claims that are inaccurate. They said that would be all they had to say on the matter.
The statement drew heavy criticism online. Dunham responded on Twitter with an apology, writing, “I now understand that it was absolutely the wrong time to come forward with such a statement and I am so sorry.”
The allegation against Miller had not been tested in court at the time of this report.
