One can only imagine what it’s like to lose a child. It’s a feeling no mother wants to go through. Unfortunately the mother’s of so many African American brothers have had to live this nightmare over the past few years and it’s something you never truly get over.
Gloria Darden is the mother of Freddy Gray, the 25 year old Baltimore man who died at the hands of police officers in April. On Wednesday, Darden was rushed to the hospital with self-inflicted injuries.
A 911 call was placed around 9:35 p.m. on Wednesday night. Gloria Darden was transported from her North Baltimore home to a nearby hospital by ambulance. “I seen the police and ambulance right there. They were taking the lady out and putting her on the stretcher bed,” a neighbor reports. No surgery or stitches were needed.
In September, the city of Baltimore paid Gray’s family $6.4 million. “Money won’t bring back Freddie Gray,” Billy Murphy, the lawyer for the Gray family, said at the time. In regards to the latest incident, he asked that Gloria Darden be given privacy as she continues to mourn. “She is still mourning the loss of her son,” said Murphy. “The family asks that you continue to pray for her and for them.”
