Black Golden Globes Nominees (2021)

The 78th Golden Globe Award nominees have been released, and some of our favorite Black celebs are getting their flowers.

These award shows still need to work on their diversity and inclusion, but Black excellence still showed out this year in Hollywood. The late and forever great Chadwick Boseman was nominated Best Actor in a Motion Picture for his role in “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.” His co-star and award-winning actress Viola Davis was nominated for Best Actress in a Motion Picture and her role in “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.”

For Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture, Daniel Kaluuya and Leslie Odom Jr. are going head to head. Kaluuya played the iconic Fred Hampton in the new film “Judas and the Black Messiah.” Odom portrayed legendary singer Sam Cooke in Regina King-led film “One Night in Miami.” And speaking of King, she is nominated for Best Director of a Motion Picture for spear-heading “One Night in Miami.”

The animated Disney-Pixar film “Soul” is nominated for Best Original Score. The nominees for “Best Original Song” includes “Hear My Voice” (“The Trial of the Chicago 7), “Speak Now” (“One Night in Miami),” “Hear My Voice” (The United States vs. Billie Holiday”), and “Fight for You” (“Judas and the Black Messiah”).

“Lovecraft Country” was nominated for Best Television Series, Don Cheadle was nominated for Best Actor in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy for his role in “Black Monday,” and John Boyega is nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his role in “Small Axe.”
