Grammy nominated gospel singer James Fortune was arrested in Stafford, Texas and charged with aggravated assault family violence, according to a spokesman for the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office. Houston station KTRK reported on October 26, 2014 that he was booked this week and released after posting a $20,000 bond.
Details of the allegation have not been released. Reports describe the person involved only as a relative, and that person has not been publicly named.
James responded with a statement saying he is “truly sorry for the negative attention” the situation has brought to his wife, family, friends and business partners. Because the matter is pending legally, he declined to address the reports directly and asked for privacy for his family.
A charge is an accusation, not a finding of guilt. We will pass along more once official details are available.
