"Graveyard Dead”: Florida Sheriff Threatens to Kill Protesters

Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey has ignited a firestorm after delivering an unapologetically violent warning aimed at protesters opposing ICE and Donald Trump’s immigration policies. In a press conference held Thursday, Ivey didn’t mince words when he said that anyone who attacks his deputies won’t just be arrested—they’ll be killed.

“We will kill you graveyard dead,” Ivey declared, looking straight into the camera. His message was targeted specifically at protesters he believes might turn violent or confront law enforcement. From throwing bricks to lighting fires to pointing weapons, the sheriff made it clear: those actions would be met with immediate, deadly force.

Ivey didn’t stop there. He described how protesters trying to surround and block a car could “get run over and dragged across the street.” He even warned about spitting or pushing officers, suggesting that anyone who did so would not only be hospitalized but also bitten by police dogs before landing in jail.

The press conference, which included Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier, was part of a larger political statement. Ivey and other officials used the moment to send a clear signal that Florida will not tolerate what they describe as anti-police or anti-government violence. Uthmeier emphasized that anyone doxxing officers or attacking them online will face legal consequences.

Ivey’s statements came just days after protest groups affiliated with the “No Kings” movement began organizing demonstrations across the country in response to growing immigration enforcement and policies seen as hostile to marginalized communities. In cities like Los Angeles, demonstrations have turned tense, prompting increased National Guard presence and political pushback from conservative governors.

Civil rights advocates have slammed Ivey’s comments as inflammatory and dangerous. Many fear that rhetoric like this will only increase the chances of violent encounters between law enforcement and demonstrators, especially during a politically charged summer.
