A North Carolina great grandmother named Hester was arrested at a Disney World security checkpoint after a deputy reportedly found CBD oil in her purse, according to Fox 35 Orlando.
Fox 35 reported that Hester’s doctor recommended the oil for her arthritis and that she had a note from the doctor with her at the time of the arrest. She told the station she had been planning the trip for two years. “I have really bad arthritis in my legs, in my arms, and in my shoulder,” she said. “I use it for the pain because it helps.”
The station also reported that CBD oil is sold on store shelves in Florida, but that state law still treats it as illegal unless a doctor prescribes it. Florida attorney Jennifer Synnamon told Fox 35 that the law can lead to a felony charge for a small amount of CBD oil, while a limited amount of marijuana leaf is a misdemeanor.
According to Fox 35, Hester spent about 12 hours in jail before she was released on a $2,000 bond.
