NBA Fines Ja Morant $75K for Repeat ‘Inappropriate Gesture’

Ja Morant denies that he went to a counseling program for drinking problems after the NBA determined that he was intoxicated when he flashed a gun on Instagram.

After rejoining the Grizzlies earlier this week, Morant was asked if alcohol played a role in his eight-game suspension.
“Never had an alcohol problem,” Morant said.  “I didn’t go there for alcohol.  I went there for counseling.  To learn how to manage stress and cope with stress in a positive way, instead of ways how I tried to deal with it before that caused me to make mistakes,” he said around the 1:39 mark.

“[The] only problem with me right now is just getting into a space mentally that I’m very comfortable in and I feel good at.  That’s why I made the decision to take time away and go to counseling.  That helped me learn a lot of things.”

The two-time All-Star admitted he considered leaving the NBA before he was embroiled in the drama but was happy that he made the call to address his mental health.
After sitting out on Monday’s game against the Mavs, Mornat said he is focused on improving himself and getting back on the court.
According to coach Taylor Jenkins, Morant is expected to play during Wednesday’s game against the Houston Rockets.
