Gunplay is speaking candidly about where things went wrong between him and Rick Ross, claiming the support he expected from Maybach Music Group disappeared once his career momentum slowed.

In a recent interview on the “I Say That 2 Say This” podcast on M3S3 TV, the Miami rapper reflected on his time within the MMG camp and the frustration he felt when opportunities and resources stopped coming his way. Gunplay explained that while the label often operated as a tight unit when pushing other artists, he believes that same energy was missing when it came time to elevate his own run.
“Everybody was a group effort. When it was Gunplay’s turn, it was crickets,” the Triple C’s founding member claimed. “I got hit records. Nobody’s giving me a budget, nobody’s doing nothing.”
According to Gunplay, the lack of financial backing and promotion left him questioning what direction he was supposed to take next. He said the situation created intense pressure, especially after years of dedication to the label.
“What you want me to f**king do? Get another hit record, and do more, and never get no money?” he said. “Or would you want me to go back in these streets… and tap these pockets like I had to do?”
Looking back now, Gunplay said his actions during that time were rooted in desperation rather than defiance. He described the moment as “literally a cry for help” after more than a decade of loyalty.
“I was down for the program for over 10, 15 years, and then nobody lifted a finger, made a phone call, or nothing for the old boy,” he claimed.
Gunplay also pointed out that decisions about budgets and projects ultimately rested with Ross.
“When I’m signed to a label like Maybach Music, my hands tied,” he explained. “It’s all up on the big dog. And then if he don’t want to get me a budget, then he won’t get me a budget.”
When asked if he and Ross still maintain a close relationship, Gunplay responded honestly: “I ain’t going to lie. Like, not really as of lately. Nah.”
