Rep. James Comer Claims Trump DOJ Told New Mexico To Stop Epstein Ranch Investigation In 2019 [Video]

Rep. James Comer says a federal request during Donald Trump’s first administration halted a New Mexico investigation into Jeffrey Epstein’s ranch years before the property became the focus of a renewed search.

Speaking Tuesday on Fox News with host Jesse Watters, Comer said federal officials stepped in during 2019 while the Department of Justice was handling the broader Epstein case.

“I do know this: The federal government asked New Mexico to stop their investigation, I believe back in 2019, of that ranch,” Comer said. The Kentucky Republican, who chairs the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, added that unanswered questions still surround how authorities handled the case.

“So, there’s just so many questions about how the government failed the victims and how government failed in trying to prosecute Epstein sooner,” Comer continued. “I mean, this whole thing doesn’t make sense.”

The Department of Justice has not yet publicly responded to Comer’s claim. Bill Barr was serving as U.S. attorney general at the time of the alleged request in 2019.

Jeffrey Epstein was arrested in July 2019 and charged with sex trafficking minors. He died in a Manhattan jail cell the following month, a death authorities and the medical examiner ruled a suicide.

Comer’s comments arrived the same day New Mexico investigators searched Epstein’s sprawling ranch property. The search was ordered by state Attorney General Raúl Torrez as part of an ongoing investigation tied to newly released federal documents.

According to a statement from the New Mexico Department of Justice, officials gained access to the property with help from its current owners and staff.

The investigation focuses on a claim referenced in documents released by the Justice Department alleging Epstein ordered the bodies of two foreign girls buried outside the ranch, located about 30 miles south of Santa Fe.
