A viral video of a woman blocking a Black man from entering his own St. Louis loft building has cost her a job.
The video, posted to Facebook over the weekend by D’Arreion, shows him trying to get into the Elder Shirt Lofts downtown after returning home late. A woman named Hilary can be heard demanding that he prove he lives in the building. Both are residents of the building, according to St. Louis Public Radio.
In the video, D’Arreion tells her he lives there too and asks her to move out of his way. The video then shows her following him toward his loft door.
Hilary worked as a property manager for Tribeca STL. The company said the incident did not happen at one of its properties and did not involve one of its tenants, adding that the video shows its employee in her private life. After a review, the company said it terminated her and that it does not tolerate racism or racial profiling.
Hilary later told Fox 2 that she was following instructions from the condo board, that D’Arreion tried to enter without a key fob, and that she did not act out of racism.
