The woman the internet nicknamed “Hallway Hillary” is speaking out days after a viral video cost her her job.
The video, posted to Facebook by a St. Louis resident named D’Arreion, shows a woman named Hilary blocking him from entering his downtown loft building. According to St. Louis Public Radio, her employer, Tribeca STL, fired her after a review. The company said the video showed her in her private life and that it does not and never will stand for racism or racial profiling.
Hilary then gave an interview to Fox 2. She said she was following repeated instructions from condo association board members never to let in anyone she did not know. She said she asked D’Arreion whether he lived in the building and that he would not show her proof. D’Arreion has said he lives there and told her she was blocking the door.
Hilary rejected the racism label, calling it “false and heartbreaking.” Many viewers and critics who watched the video called it racial profiling, while others said she may have feared he was an intruder. Some pointed out that doesn’t explain why she followed him and stayed in close quarters with him.
Those are the competing accounts as they stood that week. What are your thoughts?
