The fatal shooting of 30-year-old Telvin Osborne in Waynesboro, Georgia won’t lead to charges for the woman who pulled the trigger.
On April 24th, a Burke County grand jury returned a “no bill” against Hannah Cobb, and District Attorney Jared Williams made it official. “As the Grand Jury has spoken, the case is closed,” he said.
Cobb was arrested in February, initially charged with involuntary manslaughter. She told 911 she was “cleaning” her gun when it fired. But Sheriff Alfonzo Williams cast doubt early on, saying alcohol was involved and nothing pointed to an accident.
At her court hearing, new details emerged. Cobb and Osborne had a rocky relationship, marked by arguments and alleged abuse. The night of the shooting, they’d been clubbing in Augusta. Cobb said they argued, he pulled a knife, and she locked herself in the bathroom. When he broke in, she fired one shot.
Cobb’s friends backed her claims, and she even gave investigators Ring camera footage and showed them where to find the 8-inch knife Osborne allegedly used to threaten her. Texts from Osborne to Cobb that night read: “You’d better hide.”
Cobb called the police and was applying pressure to the wound when they arrived. Osborne died at the hospital.
The Burke County Sheriff’s Office is on high alert after social media rumors of unrest.
“While we recognize that this outcome may be upsetting, we strongly urge everyone to refrain from actions that could further harm our community,” they warned.
Whether justice was served or denied, the case has left Waynesboro divided.
