A 29 year old Harlem mother of one was fatally shot outside her apartment building after she and her fiance confronted a man who reportedly groped her in the street.
According to the New York Daily News, Shadina left her apartment near West 150th Street and Frederick Douglass Boulevard around 12:30 p.m. on January 16. Reports say a man grabbed her inappropriately outside. She went back inside to tell her fiance, identified by the Daily Mail as Josh, who is 26.
The couple went back out to confront the man and were shot outside their building, according to the reports. Josh was hit in the arm and chest. Shadina was hit three times in the chest. Both were rushed to Harlem Hospital, where Shadina was pronounced dead. Josh has since been released from the hospital.
As of the latest reports, police had not made an arrest and the gunman remained at large.
Shadina’s aunt, Corine, remembered her as a loving mother to her young son. “She was very invested in her son and his future,” Corine said. “I hate that he won’t be able to know how wonderful and how resilient she was.”
