U.S. women’s national team goalkeeper Hope Solo was arrested early Saturday, June 21, 2014, on two counts of fourth degree domestic violence assault, according to Kirkland, Washington police.
Police said they were called to a home just before 1 a.m. after a 911 caller reported that a woman was hitting people and would not stop or leave. Officers said they found Solo upset and appeared to be intoxicated. They also reported seeing visible injuries on her sister and her 17 year old nephew. After taking statements, police determined Solo was the primary aggressor and booked her into the South Correctional Entity detention facility. She was scheduled to make a court appearance Monday, June 23, at Kirkland Municipal Court.
Solo’s attorney, Todd Maybrown, pushed back on the allegations. “Hope is not guilty of any crime,” he said, adding that his investigation showed she was the one who was assaulted and injured during the incident. He said he hoped the matter would be resolved quickly in court.
At this point the case is an arrest and allegations only, and no charges have been decided in court. Reporting via the Washington Post and the Kirkland Police Department.
