A Mississippi hospital employee is out of a job after a photo of his Election Day shirt spread across social media.
On Tuesday, Nov. 6, a voter photographed a man wearing a Confederate flag T shirt that showed a noose and the words “Mississippi Justice.” The photo was posted online, and social media users identified the man as Clayton, of Olive Branch, who worked as an EMT at Regional One Health in Memphis.
As the post gained attention, many people called on the hospital to act. One Twitter user argued that he could not be trusted to care for all patients, according to the tweet that circulated at the time.
By Thursday, Nov. 8, the hospital announced that it had completed an investigation and that the employee had been terminated. In a statement, Regional One Health said it holds employees to a high standard and that behavior contrary to its commitment to compassionate care for all “will not be tolerated.”
The hospital did not release further details about its review, and Clayton had not publicly responded in the coverage available at the time.
