How We Got Here: Drake & Rick Ross Internet Feud Explained

Rick Ross Says “It Was No Conspiracies Against Drake” Following Summer Rap Feuds

Drake is at war with just about everyone, including his one-time friend Rick Ross.

The frequent collaborators previously gave us classics such as “Aston Martin Music,” “Lemon Paper Freestyle,” and “Stay Schemin.'” Sadly, that era is likely over for good. In recent days, the rap stars have feuded publicly, and it all seemed to begin after the March 22nd, 2024 release of “We Don’t Trust You.” The Metro Boomin’ and Future mixtape created a space that allowed Kendrick Lamar to air his grievances with Champagne Papi and J. Cole on the track “Like That.” This opened the door for previously neutral rappers and their relationships with Drake. Many pointed out that Ross unfollowed Drake on social media, which sparked beef rumors.

Drake seemingly responded to the unfollow by pulling the pettiest move of them all: inviting Ross’ now ex-girlfriend, Cristina Mackey, to his show days after “Like That” dropped, all but verbally confirming that he was no longer cool with the Biggest Boss.

From there, Ross was caught in the fire when Drake finally issued his response track to Lamar, titled “Push Ups,” which leaked on April 13th, before the unmastered version was unveiled.

“I might take your latest girl and cuff her like I’m Ricky/Can’t believe he jumpin’ in, this n***a turnin’ 50/ Every song that made it on the chart, he got from Drizzy/ Spend that lil’ check you got and stay up out my business,” Drizzy rapped.

In true Ross fashion, he fired back mere hours after “Push Ups” hit the internet with a track of his own titled “Champagne Moments.” On that cut, Ross revealed he had stopped following Drake after the Toronto star sent a cease and desist letter to French Montana, demanding the removal of his verse from French’s project. Additionally, Ross accused Drake of having a nose job and ab etching surgery.

Ross continued to troll Drake following their back-to-back releases, even posing for photos in a Drake hoodie, referring to the Grammy Award winner as “BBL Drizzy” and accusing him of using ghostwriters. The Miami lyricist even suggested that someone else was responsible for Drake’s verse on his and Travis Scott’s hit song, “Sicko Mode.”

Drake didn’t take these insults lying down. He called Ross a “racist” and denied having a nose job in shared screenshots between Drake and his mom, though this only gave Ross more ammunition.

Needless to say, these two won’t be letting up anytime soon, as the world awaits for the rest of Drake’s opps to speak up.
