A photo of a Miami Heat fan giving Chicago Bulls center Joakim Noah the middle finger during a Wednesday night playoff game in Miami spread across the internet in May 2013, and now the woman in the picture has been identified.
The Sun Sentinel identified her as Phyllis, a Heat fan from Jupiter, Florida. According to CBS Chicago, her daughter confirmed her identity to the paper and said her mother is embarrassed but being a good sport. Her daughter said she was having fun like any other fan, and that people need to get a life.
Along with identifying her, the Sun Sentinel and other outlets looked back at past coverage of the death of her late husband, Seth, a former CNBC commentator. Baller Alert is not repeating those allegations here. They come from past media coverage, and we did not see a statement from Phyllis on them.
For now, the story is a reminder of how fast a single photo can travel during the playoffs.
