Indiana Pacers forward Chris Copeland was stabbed early Wednesday morning outside 1 OAK nightclub in New York City, according to multiple reports. His wife, Katrine, was also hurt, with reports saying she was slashed in the arm and leg. Both were taken to Bellevue Hospital and were reportedly in stable condition.
A 53 year old woman, identified in reports as Catherine, was also injured in the abdomen. Investigators reportedly believe that injury was accidental.
Two Atlanta Hawks players, Pero Antić and Thabo Sefolosha, were also at the scene. According to reports, both were arrested and charged with obstructing governmental administration after they allegedly refused to move while police tried to set up a crime scene. A 22 year old man named Shezoy was also reported to be the person accused in the attack. He does not appear to have any NBA connection, and it was unclear what started the fight.
Copeland was in town with the Pacers for their game against the Knicks. The Hawks were set to face the Brooklyn Nets later that day. We will keep you posted as more details come in.
