The Indiana high school teacher who was caught on camera striking a child has been arrested.

Last week, 61-year-old Michael Hosinski was terminated from his job after 40 years after he was caught on surveillance footage hitting a child in the hallway of Jimtown High School. Following the incident, Hosinski was removed and approved for early retirement. But, on Thursday, the teacher was arrested on the preliminary charge of battery, NBC News reports.

According to the news outlet, the preliminary battery is a level 6 felony and formal charges have been legally requested. The incident occurred on Feb. 25.

The verbal exchange was reportedly about the student wearing a hoodie to class. South Bend Tribune reports the student suffered visible injuries and had to be treated. In the video, Hosinski is allegedly seen running after the student. Once he catches up to him, he uses the child’s backpack to sling him against the wall. After some brief words, Hosinski swiftly strikes the child’s head, sending his head against the wall. The kid then falls to the ground and Hosinski walks away.

The school’s district, Baugo Community Schools, said the child “suffered visible injuries.”
