I saw this video online and felt compelled to post it and get a conversation going. Basically, a social experiment is conducted in a park. Three people try to steal a bike out in the open. First, a white teenager. Then, a black teenager and finally, a young blonde woman. In the case of the young white teenager, hundreds of people walk by, most don’t bother to stop and ask what he’s doing. For those who do ask, the young white male tells him that the bike isn’t his and yet no one does anything about it. They just go on about their business. People even help a white woman steal a bike and not think anything of it, even after she admits she’s stealing the bike.
Now check out what they do when a young black male, dressed similarly to the white male attempts the same thing.
Watching this made me angry and it really made me realize that racial profiling isn’t going anywhere. What’s sad is that the black women are just as guilty of it as the white people were. It’s terrible that people were so up in arms when the young black male was doing the exact same thing a young white male was doing and the cops were immediately called. Did you also notice how calm they were with the white people and how abrasive they were with the black guy?
