Miami influencer Isabella Ladera, who built an audience of more than 12 million followers, is taking her ex-boyfriend, Colombian singer Beéle, to court after accusing him of leaking a private sex tape. According to her lawsuit filed in Miami-Dade County, the video existed only on their phones. Ladera says she deleted her copy but Beéle refused to delete his. After their breakup earlier this year, rumors began to circulate that explicit images of her were being shared, and on September 7 a video reportedly went viral. Ladera says the experience has devastated her both emotionally and professionally, while her family has also been dragged into the fallout. She is suing for invasion of privacy and sexual cyber harassment.

Beéle’s legal team has denied the accusations, calling them false and damaging to his reputation. At this stage, there have been no arrests and no public record of a settlement. The lawsuit remains active.

This is far from the first high-profile revenge porn case. Blac Chyna faced her own legal battle in 2017 when she accused Rob Kardashian of posting intimate images of her without consent during a heated breakup. That case was settled out of court in 2022, with terms never disclosed to the public. Kardashian did not face criminal charges in that matter, but the lawsuit sparked a discussion about privacy rights and online exploitation, especially for women of color in the public eye.

Some cases have gone even further with massive financial penalties and criminal convictions.

In the United Kingdom, Stephen Bear was convicted of voyeurism and disclosing sexual images after uploading a private video of reality star Georgia Harrison. Bear received 21 months in prison and Harrison was later awarded nearly $260,000 in damages. In Texas, a woman identified as D.L. won one of the largest revenge porn verdicts in history after suing her ex, Marques Jamal Jackson, for distributing explicit images. A jury awarded her more than $1.2 billion, including punitive damages. Collecting such a large award is complicated, but the case sent a clear message about the financial consequences.

Revenge porn has also led to criminal consequences for site operators. Hunter Moore, once dubbed the “most hated man on the internet,” was sentenced to two and a half years in prison after running a site that profited off stolen explicit images. Kevin Bollaert, who ran another site that published intimate photos alongside names and personal details, was also convicted in California and faced restitution orders, with damages in one case hitting $385,000.

These cases highlight how far the law has come in recognizing revenge porn as a serious violation. Victims are winning both in civil and criminal courts, with some defendants facing years in prison while others are being ordered to pay life-changing sums of money. But outcomes still vary. Some cases end quietly with undisclosed settlements, while others make headlines with billion-dollar verdicts.
Isabella Ladera’s case is now part of this growing legal history. If she wins, the judgment could reinforce that influencers and public figures have the same rights to privacy and dignity as anyone else. It is also a reminder that no matter how powerful or famous, once a private moment is shared without consent, the courts are increasingly willing to step in.
