2016 was a great year for black entertainment and a lot of new films and television shows are being honored at the upcoming 2017 Golden Globes.

“La La Land” leads overall nominations with seven, including nods for Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling, director Damien Chazelle, screenplay, score and song. “Moonlight” follows with six nominations, including nods for best motion picture, Barry Jenkins for best director, best screenplay and score.  “The People vs. O.J. Simpson” leads the television categories with five nominations including best limited series or TV movie.

Two of our faves, “Atlanta” and “Blackish,”  were nominated for best television series, musical or comedy. Donald Glover and Anthony Anderson are also nominated for best performance by an actor in a TV series, musical or comedy. Denzel Washington is up for Best Performance by an Actor in the Drama category for his work on “Fences.” The People v. O.J. Simpson’s Courtney B. Vance is up for Best Performance by an Actor in a Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television.

Our favorite ladies, Issa Rae and Tracee Ellis Ross are both up for best actress in a TV musical/comedy. Kerry Washington is up for Best Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or TV Movie for her role in HBO’s “Confirmation.”

It has already been announced that Meryl Streep will be honored with the Cecil B. DeMille Award for lifetime achievement in the film industry.

The Golden Globes are set to air on January 8 and will be hosted by Jimmy Fallon. Will you be tuning in?
