Issa Rae Says No to an "Insecure" Reboot: "It's So Personal to Me"

Issa Rae is not totally sold on an “Insecure” future reboot.

The prolific creator sat down with “7PM in Brooklyn,” where the topic of her hit HBO series came up.  With the success of the “Bel-Air” reboot, which features an entirely new cast than that of “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” hosts Carmelo Anthony and The Kid Mero wondered if Rae would take a similar route in the years to come.  She quickly shot down the notion, explaining why such a move would be inauthentic.

“No, ‘cause it’s so personal to me…I feel like Larry David, nobody else can do ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’ because that’s his s**t and his gripes.  So I would almost feel like, f**k that…It would almost feel like the A.I. voice of Beyoncé,” she shared, adding, “Those were my experiences.  If they wanted to create something else, then sure, but no.  I have no desire for a reboot of ‘Insecure.’”

This serves as another blow to fans, who have longed for more episodes of “Insecure” since the series finale aired on December 26th, 2021, after five seasons.  Many are eager to know how the main character navigated her newfound success in the entertainment field while also becoming a stepmother after getting back with beloved character Lawrence following their tumultuous split and reconciliation.  Additionally, “Insecure” fans were also invested in the friend groups.  The repaired friendship between Issa and Molly was highlighted at the end of the series with Molly’s wedding.  Kelly, the comedic relief of the ladies, also found love of her own while Tiffany was going through the challenges of motherhood.  Viewers believe there was much more to be covered, though Rae has seemingly moved on from the cult classic and is focused on new shows and new stories…for now.
