Convicted Murderer Walks Out Miami Jail by “Mistake” -- Now There's a Federal Manhunt

Murderer James Daniels

A convicted murderer is on the loose after Miami-Dade County’s corrections system made a critical error that let him walk out of jail last weekend.

James Edward Daniels, known as “45,” was let out of the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on Saturday due to what jail officials described as a “procedural error.”

“A full Internal Affairs investigation is underway to review the circumstances surrounding this incident and any potential failures to follow department policy,” a corrections spokesperson confirmed.

Daniels, who has a violent criminal record, was serving time for a brutal 2018 crime involving kidnapping, torture, and robbery in Opa-locka that left two men dead. He had been transferred from a state prison to face additional charges in Miami-Dade just days before his mistaken release.

Federal authorities were brought in after jail staff failed to alert them immediately. U.S. Marshals reportedly didn’t find out about Daniels’ release until the next day. The delay has raised concerns within law enforcement.

“While the immediate focus remains on returning Daniels to custody, anyone involved in this mistake will be held responsible,” officials said.

Daniels is considered armed and dangerous. Authorities are urging the public to stay vigilant and report any sightings immediately.
