A major investment in youth mental health is heading to Stockton, California, after the Hollywood Cares Foundation secured more than $12 million in state funding to build a new behavioral health facility designed to support young people and their families.
The Hollywood Cares Foundation, the nonprofit founded by Stockton Vice Mayor Jason Lee, has been awarded $12,440,337.83 in conditional grant funding from the California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS). The funding comes through the Behavioral Health Continuum Infrastructure Program (BHCIP) and will support the development of the I Am Ready Stockton Youth Center.
The new facility will be built from the ground up on South Center Street in Stockton and is designed to expand access to behavioral health care across the community. Once completed, the campus will provide outpatient treatment services, peer support resources, and dedicated programming spaces for youth and families seeking mental health assistance.
Plans for the center include a Community Mental Health Clinic that will create 40 new outpatient treatment slots and is projected to serve approximately 550 individuals annually. The campus will also feature a Peer Respite program with 20 beds, offering short-term voluntary support for individuals experiencing mental health challenges. Additional areas will be dedicated to youth-focused programming, community services, and behavioral health support.
Construction is expected to be completed by January 2028.
“This is a transformative investment in the mental health and well-being of young people in Stockton,” said Jason Lee.
“For too long, families in underserved communities have struggled to access the behavioral health resources they need. The I Am Ready Stockton Youth Center will provide a safe place for healing, guidance, and support, and ensure our youth have access to the care they deserve,” said Amelia Williamson, Managing Director, Hollywood Cares Foundation.
Once operational, the I Am Ready Stockton Youth Center is expected to serve as a centralized hub where youth, families, and community members can access counseling, treatment services, and peer support in one location.
The grant represents a major milestone in the Hollywood Cares Foundation’s continued efforts to invest in youth development, mental health resources, and long-term community infrastructure in Stockton.
Additional project development and program details are expected to be announced in the coming months. More information is available at hollywoodcaresfoundation.org.
