Jay-Z has officially stepped into the legal ring — not with new music, but with a lawsuit of his own after finding himself at the center of deeply disturbing allegations. In court documents filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Alabama, Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter lays out what he describes as a malicious conspiracy designed to ruin his name and extort him for millions.
According to the explosive amended complaint, Jay-Z claims he was targeted by attorney Anthony Buzbee, Buzbee’s law firm, and other co-conspirators including Antigone Curis and Jane Doe — the woman who originally accused him of sexual assault. The case alleges that these individuals plotted together to coerce Jay-Z into a massive payout under the threat of falsely publicizing allegations that could destroy his family, legacy, and career.
The nightmare reportedly began in Fall 2024 when the alleged victim and her lawyers filed what Jay-Z’s team calls a “false and malicious” lawsuit, originally naming him only as “Celebrity A.” Behind the scenes, however, they allegedly sent an extortionate demand letter stating that Jay-Z would be publicly named unless he paid up.
According to the lawsuit, when Jay-Z refused to settle, they followed through on their threat — amending the complaint to name him outright and launching a media campaign that included a sensational NBC News interview. Shockingly, the accuser herself allegedly admitted — in recordings and to investigators — that Jay-Z had never assaulted her, instead blaming attorney Buzbee for pushing her to proceed with false allegations for a bigger payday.
“Mr. Carter stood strong and refused to be extorted,” the complaint reads, detailing how Jay-Z’s legal team forced a voluntary dismissal of the false claim in February 2025 — but not before substantial damage was done to his reputation and mental health.
The lawsuit also exposes troubling claims about the methods used by Buzbee’s team, including mass solicitations and a controversial legal marketing firm designed to drum up plaintiffs in sexual assault cases involving celebrities. Jay-Z’s lawyers argue that the scheme was born out of greed and executed recklessly, violating professional conduct rules and weaponizing the legal system.
Though Jay-Z says he opted not to reveal Jane Doe’s real name “as a courtesy,” his lawsuit makes clear that he intends to hold every party involved accountable.
