Today, we celebrate the birthday of Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter, a towering figure in the world of music, business, and culture.

Born on December 4th, 1969, in Brooklyn, New York, Jay-Z’s career began with the 1996 release of “Reasonable Doubt,” an album hailed as a cornerstone of hip-hop, with classics such as “Feelin It,” “Dead Presidents,” “Can I Live,” and “Can’t Knock the Hustle.”  Over the years, he has delivered a string of iconic projects, including “The Blueprint,” “The Black Album,” and “4:44,” each showcasing his lyrical brilliance and unrelenting innovation. His chart-topping hits such as “Empire State of Mind,” “Hard Knock Life,” and “99 Problems” further solidified his place in music history.

With 24 Grammy Awards to his name, Jay-Z holds the record as the most-awarded rapper in history. His induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2017 marked another milestone, making him the first hip-hop artist to achieve this honor.

Additionally, Jay-Z’s entrepreneurial ventures are equally groundbreaking, especially as it pertains to growing the careers of other musicians. From co-founding Roc-A-Fella Records to launching Roc Nation, he has consistently redefined success, helping to introduce acts such as Rihanna and J. Cole. The icon has ventured into fashion with his Rocawear line.  He has also excelled in the spirits world with his D’ussé and Ace of Spades deals.  Such moves have helped him achieve billionaire status.

As we honor Jay-Z on his special day, we celebrate some of the many timeless tracks that remain on our playlists today.

“Song Cry”

“Show Me What You Got”

“Excuse Me Miss”
