White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki is facing criticism for a resurfaced homophobic tweet about Sen. Lindsey Graham.
Back on Aug. 5, 2020, Psaki posted a tweet that referred to Graham as “Lady G.” “Only in 2020 does #LadyG get to push a bunch of debunked conspiracy theories while questioning @SallyQYates (aka an American hero),” Psaki tweeted. The secretary’s statements are now being called “offensive” and “tone-deaf.”
Psaki made the comment when Sally Yates was set to testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee, which Graham (R-SC) chairs, The New York Post reports. After her post, the hashtag #LadyG and #LadyGraham began trending online. “Lady G” came from a gay porn star who alleged Graham engaged with male sex workers who referred to Graham as “Lady G.”
There has also been a slew of rumors suggesting that Graham is on the down-low as a gay man because he has never been married or had children. Trump’s former acting director of intelligence, Richard Grenell, an openly gay man, wrote, “Homophobia and intolerance from the Left are growing.” He added that Psaki’s words should be “widely condemned.”
Graham’s spokesman, Kevin Bishop, also chimed in, saying, “Very disappointed someone in her position would embrace this style politics.” He continued: “It says more about her than it does about Senator Graham.” Psaki has yet to respond to the criticism.
