Baton Rouge is facing a wave of shock and anger following the arrest of a 22 year old man for a crime so severe it has left even the highest ranking police officials searching for words.
Jeremiah Taylor was taken into custody Friday morning, accused of the vicious rape of a 94 year old woman inside her own home on East Black Oak Drive.
The assault, which reportedly left the elderly victim with broken bones, occurred this past Thursday afternoon. The details of the case have sparked intense scrutiny of the local court system, as Taylor had only been out of jail for a few weeks.
I have trouble even finding the right adjective to describe such a horrendous act,” Police Chief T.J. Morse said, describing the predatory nature of the attack on a defenseless senior citizen.
Taylor’s history with the law reveals a troubling pattern. He was released from the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on January 12, 2026, after prior charges for rape and sexual battery from an August 2024 case were dismissed. Despite a protective order being active through September 2026, which legally required Taylor to stay at least 100 yards away from his previous victim, he allegedly tried to break into that same woman’s home just one day after his release.
A warrant was issued for that violation, but Taylor remained at large until the attack on the 94 year old woman took place. Chief Morse expressed deep frustration over how the system handled a suspect with such a violent track record.
“It is a source of frustration,” Morse stated, pointing toward the broader judicial process. “Why this is happening is questions that I would like you all to ask the rest of the judicial system.”
Taylor now faces a list of serious charges, including first-degree rape, second-degree battery, and cruelty to the infirm. As the 94 year old victim begins a difficult recovery, the Baton Rouge community is left demanding accountability for the systemic gaps that allowed a repeat offender back onto the streets.

Whoever released him should be held accountable and pay restitution to this elderly woman and serve some time in jail on a charge of stupidity.
