The JetBlue flight attendant charged in the LAX cocaine case is staying behind bars for now. Marsha, 31, is being held in New York and will remain in custody until she can be transported to California, according to reports on the case. She is accused of leaving a bag holding about 70 pounds of cocaine at an LAX security checkpoint and running from officers. She has been charged but not convicted, and she is due in court for an arraignment on April 7.
Court reports say a federal judge in Brooklyn first set bail at $500,000 but put the ruling on hold while California decided how to proceed. A federal judge in California then ordered that she stay in custody. “The defendant is ordered to remain in custody and await transport by the United States Marshal to the Central District of California,” the judge ruled.
A family representative spoke outside the courtroom and described her as a hardworking nursing student and airline employee with no previous run ins with the law. Prosecutors in Brooklyn suggested otherwise. In court on Thursday, they reportedly implied without giving details that there were earlier occasions involving cocaine. No charges related to any earlier occasions have been announced.
