Jimmy Kimmel is standing his ground.

The comedian spent his Monday monologue addressing the firestorm coming from the White House after both Donald Trump and Melania Trump called for his immediate termination.
The controversy stems from a parody roast Kimmel aired on April 23, just two days before a security breach and shooting at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner on Saturday, April 25.
During his show, Kimmel clarified that his joke describing Melania as having a “glow like an expectant widow” was a commentary on the couple’s age gap and public chemistry, not a threat.
“It was a very light roast joke about the fact that he’s almost 80 and she’s younger than I am,” Kimmel explained. “It was not by any stretch a call to assassination and they know that I’ve been very vocal for many years, speaking out against gun violence in particular.”
The tension escalated after a gunman was intercepted at the annual dinner over the weekend. Trump took to Truth Social to slam the late-night host, labeling the “widow” comment “shocking” and “despicable.” He claimed the monologue was “something far beyond the pale” and demanded that ABC and Disney fire Kimmel immediately.
Melania echoed these sentiments on X, calling Kimmel a “coward” and urging the network to “take a stand” against what she described as “hateful and violent rhetoric.”
Kimmel didn’t back down, pointing out the absurdity of linking a pre-recorded comedy sketch to a violent act three days later. He even played a clip of Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt using the phrase “shots fired” when discussing the dinner earlier that week. Speaking directly to Melania, Kimmel offered a mix of sincerity and sarcasm. “I am sorry that you and the president and everyone in that room on Saturday went through that. I really am,” he said. “Just because no one got killed doesn’t meant it wasn’t traumatic and scary. And we should come together and be best. We really should.”
However, he added a sharp rebuttal, “But if you want us to believe that a joke I made three days before this dinner had any effect on anything that happened, well maybe you should look into this psychic lady, too.”
The monologue that sparked the outrage included jabs at Trump’s age and his past association with Jeffrey Epstein. At one point, Kimmel joked that Melania would spend her birthday “looking out a window and whispering, ‘What have I done?'” While the White House continues to pressure ABC, the network has yet to announce any disciplinary action against its long-time star.
