Melania Trump is taking direct aim at Jimmy Kimmel and putting ABC in the middle of the fight. The former First Lady publicly called out the late-night host after his joke about her during a mock White House Correspondents’ Dinner skit triggered backlash online and raised bigger questions about how far political comedy should go.
Last Thursday, Kimmel joked that Melania had “a glow like an expectant widow,” a line that quickly made rounds across social media. Critics called the comment disrespectful, while supporters defended it as standard late-night satire aimed at public figures.
Then the story took another turn. Two nights later, an armed man allegedly attempted to breach the actual White House Correspondents’ Dinner while targeting the Trump administration. Reports said the Trumps and cabinet officials were evacuated during the security scare, adding even more attention to the already heated controversy.
Melania later posted on X, calling Kimmel a “coward” who “hides behind ABC.” She also said his words are “corrosive” and that “people like Kimmel shouldn’t have the opportunity to enter our homes each evening to spread hate.”
Translation was clear: she wants him off the network.
So far, ABC has not responded publicly, and Kimmel has not addressed the criticism. Still, the moment has social media split down the middle. Some believe the joke crossed a line. Others say comedians mocking politicians is nothing new.
Now the pressure lands on ABC. Do they stand by their host, or decide the backlash is too loud to ignore?
