Jacquees told Mz. Shyneka at Streetz 94.5 that he would have loved a slot on Usher and Chris Brown’s R&B Tour, then made it clear there was a version of that slot he would have turned down. “I don’t think I would’ve been singing background like Mario, you know what I’m saying? And Tank and all that stuff,” he said. “I would’ve wanted to hold my own.”

The whole exchange started with Shyneka asking why he is not on the run at all. Jacquees did not dodge it. “Do I feel like I’m overlooked at times? Of course,” he said. “Did I wanna be on the R&B tour? Of course, that would’ve been dope.”He also revealed that Chris Brown called him before the tour launched, though not with an invitation. “I talked to CB before they started the tour. He called me, told me he getting in shape. He called me, said, ‘Boy, I’m getting in shape. I’m going shirt off on this tour.’” So Jacquees knew exactly what was coming, from the man building it, and still watched the whole thing go up without him on the bill.
Then came the line that is going to run all weekend. He bracketed it with shout outs on both ends, opening with love for Usher and Chris Brown and closing with “but shout out to them, you know what I’m saying,” which is the standard Atlanta way of saying something sharp and covering it in the same breath. The middle is still the middle.
Whether Tank is actually on the tour is a separate question. The confirmed additions to The R&B Tour are Mario and Eric Bellinger. Mario made a surprise appearance on opening night in Denver on June 26, then announced days later that he was staying for the whole run. “1 NIGHT wasn’t enough! My bro @chrisbrownofficial said we running it up the whole tour,” he wrote on Instagram, adding a shout out to Usher, Bellinger and DJ Fresh. Tank has not been announced as part of the lineup. Jacquees may have been speaking loosely about featured guests in general, but as of now the two names attached to the run are Mario and Bellinger.
What makes the Tank name-drop land differently is history. In December 2018, Jacquees posted the clip that changed his career, declaring himself the King of R&B for his generation. The internet ate him alive for a week, and Tank was the sharpest voice in it. “First R. Kelly is the King of R&B,” Tank wrote at the time, before laying out his own standard. “If you can’t go in the studio BY YOURSELF and make a hit record, you’re not my king. If you can’t sing it better live, you’re not my king.” J. Holiday, Keith Sweat, Ne-Yo and Diddy all weighed in against him too. Jacquees never backed down. When Tank posted a photo with Trey Songz and Keith Sweat captioned “He said what?”, Jacquees replied “U know what I said.” He named his 2019 album King of R&B and kept moving.
So when Jacquees says in 2026 that he would not have wanted to sing background like Tank, that is a receipt eight years in the making. He is the only person in that conversation who has been consistent about it.
There is a real argument buried under the shade, and it is one a lot of R&B artists in his position could make. Jacquees has never been positioned at the stadium level, and the tour that is being sold as the celebration of the genre is a two man show with everybody else in guest spots. If your entire brand is that you are the best singer of your generation, a walk-on is not a promotion. It is a demotion with a bigger crowd watching.
Whether he was ever offered anything is the question nobody has answered. Jacquees did not say he turned down a spot. He said he wanted one, was not called, and would have had conditions if he had been. Those are three different things and the internet is about to blend them into one.
The R&B Tour runs through December 11 in Tampa. There is time for a surprise.
