On Sunday, Civil Rights icon John Lewis and Georgia congressman was released from an Atlanta hospital following a “routine observation” from falling ill on a plane, according to CNN.

Sources tell local Atlanta news station WSB-TV 2, the incident took place on Saturday as Lewis was traveling back from Detroit to Atlanta, where he was scheduled to attend an event later in the evening. Prior to landing in Atlanta, the 78-year-old reportedly “started feeling dizzy and sweaty” on the plane.

Despite the health scare, Lewis’ spokesperson Brenda Jones released a statement following his hospital release.

“Rep. John Lewis has been released from the hospital this evening,” the statement read. “All tests have been completed, and doctors have given him a ‘clean bill of health.’ He thanks everyone who shared their thoughts, prayers and concerns during his stay.”

In addition to serving alongside Martin Luther King Jr. as an influential Civil Rights activist during the 1960s, Lewis has represented Georgia’s 5th Congressional District since 1987.

More recently, Lewis has been an active participant in various marches across the country protesting against Donald Trump’s “zero-tolerance” immigration policy.

During a June 30 march in Atlanta, he told attendees: “The world is crying with us. We must show the world that we are better than what is going on in America today.”
